Say No - Family Violence in a Community Context

Event Description

The Glenelg Shire Council and the Rotary Club of Portland Say No to Family Violence Committee will be hosting a free event, as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

Community members are invited to come along to hear about a community response to family violence. Keynote speaker Simone O'Brien will share her personal story as a survivor of domestic violence, as well as some of the red flags that individuals and the community should be aware of.

Jason Dance, Detective Senior Sergeant (Warrnambool Family Violence Investigation Unit) will share information at a local level about the Great South Coast Community Statistics, including how police manage domestic violence incidents, legal definitions of intimate partner violence and how the police help and support survivors. The Say No to Family Violence Committee will also be speaking at the event to share the important work that they do in the community to raise awareness of family violence.
