Maxine McKew
Board Director

Maxine McKew AM is a non-executive director. She recently completed 9 years as a director of State Library of Victoria and has been a director of Respect Victoria since 2021.

Until recently, Maxine was an Honorary Enterprise Professor at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education.  Maxine’s book ‘Class Act’ considers what it takes to deliver effective schooling to children in low socio-economic areas.

Maxine’s background traverses both journalism and politics.  A familiar face to ABC TV viewers as the anchor of both Lateline and the 7.30 Report, Maxine switched to politics in 2007 and achieved the historic feat of unseating then Prime Minister John Howard in the Sydney seat of Bennelong in 2007. She served in the federal Parliament until 2010.

In 2023 Maxine became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant services to journalism, to higher education and to the Parliament of Australia.
