Grantees announced for community-led approach to preventing gendered violence in Ballarat

Ten new grants to continue growing the Respect Ballarat approach.

Respect Victoria, together with the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence the Hon. Melissa Horne, today announced the recipients of 10 new grants to support the work of Respect Ballarat.

A community approach to preventing gendered violence, Respect Ballarat is a model co-designed with local people and organisations. It aims to reach the Ballarat community in the places they work, learn, live and play.

Work funded today includes 8 initiatives led by local organisations and 2 settings lead positions to help embed and coordinate prevention in the local early years and community sports sectors.

The funded initiatives are listed below. All of the initiatives are being run in partnerships or consortiums, with the lead organisation listed here:

In February, 11 initial projects were funded by the Ballarat Foundation in partnership with Respect Victoria. Those initiatives are now beginning their work alongside local partners and Respect Victoria to ensure a coordinated approach.

Learning and education opportunities will continue to be rolled out for local organisations and communities over the next 12 months, with a focus on building prevention understanding and supporting communities to build literacy on respectful, safe relationships.

The work of Respect Ballarat builds on decades of work from local organisations and advocates, including local implementation lead Women’s Health Grampians.
